Old Town Square is the heart of Fort Collins. There are many unique shops, restaurants of every kind, micro breweries, arts and entertainment. It is a vibrant place to be and this energy is heighten by all the young people who spend time there.  Many of the eating places have outside areas where people can enjoy the vibrant energy and a meal too. People watching is a favorite pastime.

Old Town Fort Collins is centered at the intersection of College and Mountain Ave. It runs roughly from Mulberry on the south to the Poudre River on the North. It runs from the Poudre River on the East to about Shields St on the West. Some folks go as far as Taft Hill Ave. on the West. See collection of Old Town Fort Collins.

Old Town Square is the former Linden St. and has been closed off to make a short mall. Old Town Square  was the vision of Gene Mitchell. The original vision was designed to be a renovated shopping and gathering area. The vision has been reached and enjoyed by the cities residents for many, many years. The ownership has changed and the present owner Brian Soukup has done an excellent job maintaining and improving the original vision.

I have had the opportunity to travel all across this country and visit many hundreds of cities and small towns. It is my opinion that of all I have visited Old Town Fort. Collins is one of the best areas of it's kind.  There are many good ones but Fort Collins Old Town Square and the entire area called "Old Town" is right up near the top.

Old Town also has great old buildings and is interspersed with new renovated properties as well. The original planner of Fort Collins,  Mr. Avery, was an individual who also had great vision. The streets of old town and downtown are very wide and allows for great traffic movement in a small area. It is also a wonderful place for festivals, parades and other events. When I was a teenager here in Fort Collins College Ave was the place where the kids drove to see and be seen. We called it "dragging the gut".  I still see the kids participating in what appears to be a similar activity and remember it fondly.
